Using a single smartcard, users gain access to, and tender payment for, a wide variety of key services typically found in campus environments. Each time a transaction takes place, all of the details of that transaction are recorded in the system (e.g. date, time, user, item purchased etc.). The transaction details are then processed by the robust back office software package complete with powerful reporting tools that deliver accurate management information regarding sales and card activity at the touch of the button. ChipNet3 has been designed to give both educational and corporate administrators a firm foundation product from which they can expand and grow their card based information and payment solutions into the future.
Our vision is that ChipNet3 shall be inherently upgradeable and essentially independent of future card technology, with the goal of allowing customers to upgrade their card without having to endure a major change to their system infrastructure.
Each user of the ChipNet system has a personalized smartcard, which may feature photo identification, a barcode, magnetic stripe or signature panel if required. To provide the most cost effective solution the entry level card is a standard 256 byte memory smartcard and this card is specially encoded to work as part of the ChipNet system. The entry-level card provides a secure, cost effective and powerful platform that allows ChipNet3 to provide its unique flexibility. The chip on the smartcard carries a cash value and when purchases are made the cost is deducted from the value on the card. The card also carries the cardholder's personal permissions profile. All cards set up within the Infineer system can have a maximum of two on-card purses. It is often easier to think of these Purses as pockets holding separate amounts of money. Purse 1 is a personal cash purse whilst the second purse can be configured to provide a number of different functions including a daily allowance, meal plan, departmental budget or a discount against selected purchases. During the proposal process a number of card user profiles will have been identified. These will be set up in the software as Card Templates and will reflect the user rights and permissions for each identified User Group such as: Teachers and students; Management and employees etc..
At the heart of any ChipNet system is the most powerful management software on the market today. ChipNet3 has a modular API structure and uses a Task Pad environment to make navigation of the management options as clear and simple as possible. The Task Pad is the core user interface and gives access to the Task Bar as well as System Functions such as technical card and group management features along with search and system utilities. In addition, the Task Pad gives ChipNet3 the ability to be centrally controlled or individual departmental administrators can control their own areas as part of a devolved system. Whatever the management philosophy employed, ChipNet3 operates in a true client server environment with a central multi-tasking database core. You can start with a single application, for example,, securing payment for the use of copiers in the library and roll out more applications at a later date. All you need to do is procure and install the relevant payment terminals; the software already contains the all of the necessary administrative tools. Over 300 locations worldwide reflect the popularity of the solution. With almost 2,000,000 cards issued, ChipNet continues to grow and meet the needs of the widest range of customers in both the education and corporate world.
